Bruce is a world class piper who has competed in the World Pipe Band
Championships in Glasgow, won a silver medal for Piobaireachd at Oban,
served as the Senior Pipe Major of the British Army and as the Chief
Instructor at the Army School of Piping in Scotland.
Format of Instruction is presentational: explaining, demonstrating, and
interacting in class with question and answer sessions. Individual
playing not required.
The Workshop will include basic playing topics and competition piping,
the lower grades. Subjects will include pipe setup, appropriate tunes,
tempo's, prep for the day, what to expect in judging and what judges
are looking for. Time will be set aside to play tunes for Bruce and
discuss the critique.
Private lessons are available on Thursday, the 28th and Friday, the
29th.
Pipers of all abilities are invited. Pipers of all levels will benefit
by attending this Annual Workshop.
The Workshop is $80, fee includes lunch. The workshop begins promptly
9:30am and ends approximately at 4:30pm.
There will be Dinner after the workshop at a local establishment.
Pipers will be playing, laughing, and story telling. Bring your
practice chanter, pipes and join the fun.

Bruce's accomplishments.
Bruce started his piping career in New Zealand at the age of nine. He
played with the City of Wellington Pipe Band who were the New Zealand
Grade 1 champions.
After competing at the World Pipe Band Championships in 1975, Bruce
stayed in Scotland to compete solo around the Highland Games circuit.
He enlisted in the Queens Own Highlanders.
in 1978 under the guidance of P/M Iain Morrison (Lewis), he won a
silver medal for Piobaireachd at Oban in 1979. The late Captain Andrew
Pitkeathly (Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) tutored Bruce in
Piobaireachd for many years. Bruce has had tuition from other highly
rated pipers such as Donald MacLeod among others.
Bruce became Pipe Major of the Q.O.H. in 1986 and served in this
position for 5 years. After one year as P/M of the Scottish Division's
Piping School, Bruce was appointed Senior Pipe Major of the British
Army and Chief Instructor at the Army School of Piping, Edinburgh
Castle.
Since leaving regular service in the Army, Bruce was commissioned into
the Territorial Army with responsibility for piping in the TA and Cadet
Forces. He founded a successful reed-making and bagpipe supply
business. Bruce travels world wide providing instruction and running
various piping schools and workshops. He teaches at the College of
Piping Summer School in Carlsbad CA and runs the Jim Thompson US School
of Piping and Drumming in Flagstaff AZ.
COVID-19 Requirements.
Masks will be required (maybe). Vaccinations are highly recommended.
Recent rules are masks will be required inside for non-vaccinated
people. Seating will be distanced.
