Hi, band mates
I already posted the link on the band Facebook page earlier today, but I know that not everyone looks at that regularly, so I'm letting you know via this email as well. Hopefully all of you who were affected by the fires have returned home safely and not suffered losses. Unfortunately our friend and former colleague and instructor, Jay Salter, the Pipe Major of the Santa Cruz Pipes and Drums, with whom I also play and perform, was not so lucky. He lost thousands of dollars worth of valuable possessions -- including several sets of pipes, music books, and family history and heirlooms -- that were destroyed in the CZU Complex fire.
This misfortune has come at the worst possible time for Jay, as the pandemic has already taken a huge bite out of his primary source of income -- piping gigs and giving lessons. So he's really hurting right now, both financially and emotionally.
Andrew Lenz, formerly a piping student of Jay's (and who some of you might recognize as a moderator of the Bob Dunsire Forum), set up a Go Fund Me page to help Jay out, and he asked me to spread the word. Several folks in the band have already donated and I ask and encourage you to join us in support. Thank you.
Jeff
